One town particularly hit hard is Yunbuao in Hengzhou. A secondary danger there comes from the hundreds of snakes that have escaped from a flooded snake farm; reportedly, some 900 snakes have escaped, including cobras, leading to serious snakebite danger.

Snake farming is a real industry in Guangxi and Guangdong where snakes are raised for meat, leather, and traditional medicine. This is why 1000 snakes could come from one single village farm.

This looks like something straight out of a nightmare.

People are reaching out for help via Weibo, family homes have become completely flooded and people cannot reach their loved ones. This is Longpai village in Binyang County, Nanning.

Some smaller villages near Yunbiao are now cut off from electricity and communication, having nothing to eat or drink and are waiting for rescue efforts.

Nanning authorities say 84,700 people have been affected, and nearly 54,000 people have already been evacuated. Since the flood covers a vast area, rescue efforts are difficult.

For some snake farmers, there's also a tiny bit of banter amid the tragedies and devastation. At least they got this snake back.

Tragically, it is a man made disaster. Sure, rain brings flooding, but dam bursts are preventable.
