The flyovers will continue until this happens. Because there is a long history of military aviation mishaps where the causal thread is someone thinking that the rules—always written in someone else’s blood—don’t apply to them, and they push the rules until someone new bleeds.

And the pilots peers knew it was going to happen.

Didn't a pilot showing off accidentally cut a gondola cable in the alps and kill everyone?

Equating an F/A-18 super hornet operating under completely normal (high speed, low-G) conditions to a B-52 conducting a low-altitude, low speed, overbank turn is craaaaazy

I was stationed at Fairchild AFB. This was so tragic!! Lt Col Art Holland was the pilot and had a reputation for “hot-dogging”!!’ Crew had reported him many times yet his rank kept him in the cockpit. Used to be referred to as R H I P (Rank Has Its Privelage)

If I remember correctly the PIC was a known hotdog and his flying ability was only great in his mind. Yet, everyone looked the other way until he killed himself and 3 others.

You can’t do the same acrobatic maneuvers in a B-52 that you can do in a F-18? GTFO!

Have you ever flown a BUFF? It’s like dancing with an elephant. You can nudge, but if you push, you are gonna get squashed. Comparing the F/A-18 to the B-52 in terms of envelopes shows a basic lack of aerodynamic understanding.

There is a massive difference in aircraft—The F/A-18 has roughly 3x higher thrust-weight-ratio than the B-52. The F/A-18 is a nimble, high-performance fighter; the B-52 is a lumbering strategic hauler. Hope this helps.

Lieutenant Colonel Arthur "Bud" Holland experiencing FAFO in a B-52. This is what happens when senior leaders get intimidated by repeated reckless behavior by mid-level officers.

First a pool and now flyovers. You guys really need to find something real to be mad about.

Saddest part about this crash was that for one of the co-pilots this was his retirement flight and his family was there to watch. Then his insane pilot decided to do some stupid tricks and killed them all.

Really? Were those pilots Blue Angels? You know, guys who are trained to do crowd fly-bys on a weekly basis? No. No, they weren't. In fact, that pilot had been a problem for a long time.

Wreckage from a UH-60, the pilots took their wives on a joyride. Crashed. Both wives killed.

If championing this leads to deaths, it will all be antifa's fault. Or illegal aliens. Or far-left Haitian anchor babies. Just like the algae in the pool was everyone else's fault.

This B-52 crash is true preventable tragedy. Pilot had a lengthy history of flying at low altitudes doing stupid shit. But bc he was one of the fellas, he kept getting away w/it. Colonels at the Wing decided to go on a flight w/this yahoo to monitor him ...the crash.

My pilot training classmate who took the right seat after failing to get the leadership to fire the incompetent left seat pilot. He begged leadership to ground this guy. When they refused, he decided to not let any of his young guys die in the right seat. He took their place

Exactly what I was going to post. Obviously a different aircraft, but same overall risks. I had already gotten the link.

This type of high bank in a heavy aircraft that relies on wing lift vs thrust only (which the f18 can do) is completely different than a fighter conducting high bank maneuvers

This is one of the first things I thought of. It’s all “America fuck yeah! shut up, pussies!” Until people get needlessly killed from engaging in obviously risky behavior.

That was 1994. We’ve done quite a few flyovers safely since then. We can police ourselves quite nicely, don’t worry.

Comparing apples to oranges. The B-52 was a pilot with an ego. The Blue Angels are world class pros who are the elite of pilots. Cry harder.

Now imagine this happens when the aircraft is pointed at the crowd - Just as in the case of this FA-18 Pilot. At least the Apache pilots never put their aircraft over the crowd or land for that matter.
