🇺🇸Artemis II launched yesterday, sending four astronauts on the first crewed mission to the Moon in more than 50 years. The crew has already spent a full day in space and completed early milestones, including manually piloting the Orion spacecraft. Today they will perform the critical trans-lunar injection burn that will send them on their path toward the Moon. The roughly 10 day journey includes a close flyby of the lunar surface before using the Moon’s gravity to slingshot them back to Earth for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. Source: NASA

After a historic journey around the Moon, Artemis II astronauts make a successful splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. Traveling farther from Earth than any humans in decades, this mission marks a major step toward future lunar and Mars exploration.

Humanity's first crewed lunar mission in more than half a century lifted off Wednesday. After a tense afternoon of checks and fixes, four astronauts — three Americans and one Canadian — aboard NASA's newest moon rocket began their journey at 6:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Over the next 10 days, the crew of the Artemis II mission will fly around the moon and back while setting a new record for the farthest distance humans have ever traveled from Earth. Apollo 17, in 1972, was the last time astronauts landed on the moon.
