The low IQ version of this story is that a Democrat PAC is contributing directly to Hilton’s campaign. That is disproven by the financial filings themselves. So then the story changed. The newer version of the story is that the Democrats are elevating Steve Hilton with reverse-psychology Trump mailers because they are afraid to face Bianco in November and want to suppress Bianco support by using Trump to sway voters to Hilton. This is delusional because Bianco is nowhere near being a threat to Dems and it requires one to believe ALL polls are rigged by 10 points or more. The most logical explanation grounded in reality is that Dems don’t want to face Steyer in November. It has literally nothing to do with Bianco. If Bianco had a poll to show he is polling higher, he would have released it. Either it doesn’t show that, or he doesn’t have the money to commission one. Either explanation means he is not running a winning campaign. So instead he’s saying all polls are rigged. Bianco supporters’ comparison to inaccurate 2016 polling between Clinton and Trump is also delusional. Bianco is not Trump. There’s no “shy” Bianco voter block afraid to admit it. All of this is BAD for California. He is pulling votes from the only Republican with a shot at top 2, and telling voters everything is rigged, so that when he loses on June 2, they will turn around and say the election was stolen and then not turnout in November. You have the option at any point to downgrade your property and get a cheaper property and pay [a lower tax]. And here's the other important point about property tax: it’s uniform. Uniform means that everyone pays the same percentage, the same property tax rate in a county. This asset seizure tax that's being proposed is a demographic tax — meaning that the state or the legislature defines a specific group of individuals (in this case, they're saying anyone with a net worth over a billion dollars) and then they can go and take assets from only that group. That is nonuniform taxation. It means that for the first time we're saying based on the demographics of a person meaning whatever you want to use to define that person (in this case their wealth) — you are going to be treated differently. And that is different than an income tax, because remember when you have graduated income tax rates (and you say high earners get taxed more) — what you're taxing is the earnings, not the individual. You're not looking through to the individual to determine whether or not they're wealthy. All you're doing is looking at the independent earnings amount that's coming in. And so a uniformity clause is supposed to protect people from being demographically discriminated against. And you may roll your hand and be like: ‘Oh, who cares about the billionaires? Eat the rich. That's great.’ But fundamentally, you're giving the government, the legislature, the ability to in the future take any demographic definition they want and go in and take any percentage they want of after-tax property from you. Before the printing press, you might only have had access to a single copy of Aristotle or whoever. This scarcity made ideas slippery. Even if you had evidence that disproved Aristotle, it was easy for someone to argue that Aristotle didn't really mean that - maybe the scribe made a mistake copying the book. But once you had a uniform printed text, with many identical copies, the written word became more load-bearing. When actual evidence conflicted with authority, it wasn't so easy to ignore. Arguably this was a major contributor to the Scientific Revolution. Ideas became more rigid, easier to pin down - and so easier to test and disprove. The broader point is that the shift from oral culture to written culture didn't just happen once. Writing has become more and more load-bearing over time, as technology has changed, and it's hugely changed culture with it. And if writing remains the key component of how AI gets up-to-speed with tasks, then this process could get accelerated.
