The genetics startup Colossal has re-created the dire wolf, which went extinct some 12,000 years ago. D.T. Max discusses how the company re-created the animals, and whether they can be truly considered dire wolves. Read his report:

@dtmax Are we bringing back species just to stare at them in a zoo? Releasing dire wolves into the wild seems like it might be overwhelmingly disruptive to 2025 ecosystems. Either way, I vote no.
