The GENIUS Act’s passage is a mixed bag. While streamlining payment systems is long overdue, Section 4(a)(1)(A) reveals the same old bureaucratic playbook: $55 million allocated for a "Joint Autonomy Office" to coordinate autonomous systems. That’s code for another layer of D.C. middlemen siphoning taxpayer cash into redundant oversight. The bill mandates 1:1 reserves for stablecoins—common sense—but why does Section 13 let regulators drag their feet for 18 months on implementation? Classic swamp delay tactics. And let’s not ignore Section 18’s carveouts for foreign issuers, which could let offshore entities exploit loopholes while U.S. innovators drown in compliance costs. Real reform would’ve axed the bloat, not codified it.
