The mounting starvation in Gaza is a direct result of Israel’s dismantling of the ‘UN model’ of aid distribution and its replacement with the lethal GHF system. Israel is deliberately undermining systems of aid distribution by the UN and other international agencies: restricting the flow of aid, permitting looting in military zones, and attacking distribution centres. Just as civilians have been killed at GHF ration stations, those waiting along aid truck routes are also being targeted by the Israeli military—making every route to aid in Gaza deadly. “The term humanitarian absolutely cannot be utilized in a serious fashion toward that thing,” said UN Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, describing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation as “absolutely a death trap.” She said GHF violates every core principle of humanitarian aid: it creates harm, lacks dignity, and fails to deliver adequate assistance. Over 600 people have been killed trying to reach aid, yet governments treat GHF as a solution. “It’s ludicrous,” she said. “The only sensible thing… is to break the blockade.”
