@jtsale It failed because it was dismantled. Bitcoin allows tx and proof of reserves where gold failed. Bitcoin is the new gold.

@jtsale I agree, but the true weakness of the Gold Standard was precisely its dependence on political power. I'm about to defend a doctoral thesis that tangentially addresses this issue: "Bitcoin as a Sound Money: An Analysis in the Light of the Austrian School of Economics."
