“Why on earth would I want to hold… bitcoin” Yeah… totally why would anyone want to hold one of the best performing assets in the world that has created numerous millionaires and billionaires since launching. Crazy people for sure.

So is holding “something” he never actually truly owns and does not understand the value of a global neutral decentralized hard capped supply asset NO ONE CONTROLS? Ok

If you believe in the singularity, you believe in overwhelming deflation. That deflation makes debts unserviceable, and central banks can’t allow it, so they’ll print, debase, and inflate. Th exchange rate of any money being debased will plummet against one that can’t be. Bitcoin doesn’t need to be productive to become more valuable. It’s the best battery for buying power in a sea of broken batteries.

🔥

Alex needs some more schooling on bitcoin. You should get Jeff Booth on the podcast.

The singularity will create abundance so scarcity will be valuable, physical or digital. It's a money technology, most don't see it because you have to understand how money works and the tech behind it, those 2 groups are often in diff social circles.

It’s kind of an odd argument in a way. Will be able to “own” anything at all after the singularity? By definition it’s impossible to know. I wouldn’t want to own all software stocks though. 🤣

Physics says Bitcoin reaches $10M by 2045 …100x from here. @alexwg Maybe it’s time we listen to physics … and to @Giovann35084111 The Bitcoin Physics.

So smart but so silly on no meat & btc.

You shouldn’t own bitcoin or gold for productivity, they are owned as a protection against monetary and political risk and diversification…it may be well to remember there are people that live under less than desirable political regimes. And also, nothing stops this train

People putting money into index funds "because markets" make me giggle 🤭.

That’s a pretty crazy head and shoulders in the making, 80yrs and ongoing (Dalio talks about the super long term cycle, coincides with Neil howe’s 4th turning) In all seriousness, maybe they’re both just speculative market vehicles and sometimes one does better than the other

When everything becomes abundant from AI, capital will seek what’s scarce that AI can’t make abundant. Long scarcity, short abundance is the trade of the future.

Gold has outperformed index funds

Interesting perspective from a person I admire intellectually, but perhaps not from investment perspective 🤓

If bitcoin becomes the world currency I would say it has been pretty productive.

There’s equally no point in owning the ground beneath Central Park real estate by this logic.

That's a lot of words to say "I don't know what I'm doing".

Isn’t he supposed to be the genius one?

I bet he "doesn't understand" a great many things. 🤦♂️

Why would base money be a productive (yield generating) asset. If it was productive, where does the yield come from?

Bitcoin > Gold

The reason to hold an unproductive asset is the increasing value of a scarce resource. Instead you're buying the things whose marginal value is tending to zero. Go long scarcity, short abundance.

What about bittensor:native

#gold & #btc are NOT productive assets, they r means to VALUE assets. Currency is bridge to convert assets into SoVs & back - to direct capital. If u r all in on INDEXes - u r saying you don't want to exercise choice - not bad - but understand diff - passive vs active.

Doesn’t sound like it’s a debate - it’s neither in Alex’s opinion. The question is “productive assets” or not.

Another Bitcoin vs gold debate, published today!

This thankfully not investment advice. Because it is insane.

Some of the most brilliant people on the planet still can’t see Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a productive asset, it is money. For example saylor is issuing credit against bitcoin as collateral.

Bitcoin doesn't seem a good investment.

Betting against scarcity in a world remade by exponential tech is a risky bet. The world of abundance doesn't include abundant Bitcoin. Scarcity will always exist in some form.

There is no debate, gold bugs are going extinct 1 death at a time. Its evolution.

Tokens are the future. Period. Tokens will be exchangeable for virtually any digital output, crypto included. Once robotics takes hold, tokens will be exchangeable for virtually any good or service.

I still prefer the classics:
