Can we opt out? I heard your phone is unusable untill you acknowledge the alert.

Yes, you can opt out. Though the government advises you should keep them switched on for your own safety. If you wish to opt out, then: - Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’. - Turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’. Thomas

Surely you giving my number to them is against gdpr rules ?

Hello Shelly. Emergency Alerts use cell broadcasting alerts from 4G and 5G masts to mobile devices within an area of risk. Your location or phone number are not used. For more information please visit Charlotte

For “floods and wildfires”… yeah UK always has wildfires and anyone in a flood zone is pretty used to it…. This is really for sending a message one day that reads “Putin has fired nuclear weapons… it’s time to kiss your loved ones goodbye”

Erm, no thanks! 49yrs on this planet, 24 of those having owned a mobile phone. Never once in all those yrs have I or anyone else I know, needed an emergency alert. Maybe the government should come with an alert to notify us when they're lying 🤔

For those worrying that Vodafone gave the government your number .. 🙄 Get a new pay as you go sim and turn it on just before the test. There would be no way Vodafone could give the new number to the government by that time the test starts. Proof number isn't used.

Is this the start of a war ?

A lot of people on here complaining. When the government are doing something to protect the public. I’m greatful for this! Technology is advanced it’s crazy what can be done these days. People should appreciate the help.

Why can’t I get through on 191 just says experiencing difficulties 2 days in a row been trying to contact you about my upgrade and I don’t want to do it online as I want to change to sim only

Hi Kelly 👋 It's disappointing to hear that you're having trouble reaching us. During busier periods our phone lines will direct you to use the digital channels to get your query resolved quicker. You can also change to a SIM Only via your online account or Live Chat. Charlotte
