The government failed to provide adequate intelligence or support to prevent coordinated attacks on more than 20 of its military bases, where Al-Shabaab successfully overran the positions, looted weapons and vehicles, and killed the majority of Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers. Despite this failure, the government is now attempting to take credit for the defense efforts led by a clan in Hiiraan, who defended their own territory without meaningful support from Villa Somalia Ministry of Foreign Affairs 🇸🇴. Hawadle provided their own weapons, vehicles, fuel, food, and other resources necessary for the fight. The State Minister of Defence, MP Omar Ali Abdi, provided details on a successful “Operation Silent Storm” targeting Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle region. Russian Telegram channels post this video as Wagnerites leaving their rear camps in Russia and Luhansk region (temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory). A video published by Russian "military correspondent" shows a convoy of vehicles on a road, accompanied by the police. There seem to be no heavy weapons and some of the vehicles have Belarus license plates. Yesterday Russian defense ministry reported that Wagner PMC passed all its heavy weapons, military equipment and munitions to the ministry.

Is the a Front for Al-Shabaab? The SSC-Khaatumo Youth Group sought new members in the United States to support the development of the Al-Shabaab-affiliated SSC-Khaatumo government of Somalia. This “Youth Group” states that it is dedicated to the development of the SSC-Khaatumo State in Somalia. That statement alone identifies the group as a foreign agent. The organization is not registered with the DOJ as a foreign principal or foreign agent. It appears that the UK branch of the SSC-Khaatumo Youth Group posted the U.S. recruitment announcement. This is especially concerning because portions of the SSC-Khaatumo military is led by Abdi Madobe, who is also an Al-Shabaab commander in the region.
