I drove from Jammu to Srinagar today. It snowed continuously from Banihal to Srinagar. The conditions were quite treacherous. I understand there are around 2000 vehicles stuck between the tunnel & Qazigund. My office has been in touch with the administration in South Kashmir. While snow clearance has been done the road is very icy. Heavy vehicles are being allowed to move & efforts are on to clear the rest of the stranded vehicles.

New type of toll tax. Yesterday, I was driving to a village area near Surat when I saw many girls standing in a line, holding hands and blocking the entire road. They were asking for money. When I asked why, they said it was for Purnima. I gave ₹50 and passed. After a few kilometres, another group of girls was again standing on the road and stopping vehicles for the same reason. I had to pay 3 times on the same road. I have no problem giving ₹50 as goodwill, but blocking the entire road feels less like asking for a donation and more like extortion.

Protesters at Saint Annes police station last night. I have seen in the Echo today that politicians have come out condemning the next protest organised by the same person on County Road next week. Country Road is one of many areas in Liverpool that has undergone massive demographic and cultural change in a short space of time. Many of the locals are upset that this has been done to their home without consulting with any of them. It’s not that they were ignored. They were never part of the decision-making process to begin with. So they are taking to the streets to make themselves heard. And now they are being silenced by the very people that did this to them.

One of THE MOST impactful changes we can make to urban roads in India is to maintain consistent road widths from one intersection to the next. Our current, variable road widths disrupt the orderly flow of traffic. For example, if there's just a bit of extra space on the side, auto-rickshaws attempt to squeeze in, causing chaos. If a road suddenly narrows from three lanes to two and a half, congestion follows. In cities like London, when extra right-of-way is found, the footpaths are widened up to the road. But in Mumbai, we tend to expand the road instead. The issue with this approach is that the number of private vehicles in a densely populated city like Mumbai can grow without limits. Expanding roads only encourages more vehicles. On the other hand, widening footpaths doesn't cause the same problem because the space required for pedestrians is limited—walking is highly space-efficient. #WalkingProject

Mexican supporters did gather for a ‘serenade’ near the England team hotel overnight. It sounds romantic. Much more romantic than a load of people gathering outside the team hotel in the dead of night, and making a racket in an attempt to prevent Mexico’s next opponents from sleeping. The scenes in Mexico City were on a much smaller scale than those ahead of the Ecuador game last week. This time, the police were prepared. There were two perimeters set up, one preventing vehicles from passing, the other stopping anyone on foot. Even the inner ring was 200 metres from England’s hotel. Crowds gathered, but the police eventually moved them on, as they did when a second wave - a group of fans played music and let off fireworks - later mustered on a footbridge. On Tuesday Sept 10th, I visited the NIPCO CNG conversion center along Airport Road in Abuja to inquire about the possibility of converting my car to CNG. To my amazement, I saw many commercial vehicles refilling their cylinders attached to the trunks of their vehicles, which prompted me to engage some of the drivers. One driver who really explained the benefits of CNG to me was a Bolt driver. He mentioned that he refills his cylinder for about 3k, which lasts him a maximum of two days. He also stated that he makes between 40 to 50k daily from his work. However, I was disappointed when he said that he still charges his passengers as if he were using PMS. He mentioned this with so much pride, as if he did nothing wrong. I noticed many Golfs and Toyota Corollas on the line to refill as well. It’s also worth noting that the conversion for commercial vehicles is free, courtesy of the federal government, while the cost for private vehicles depends on the engine capacity. If you have a four-cylinder engine, conversion costs about 750k, while a six-cylinder conversion is nearly a million naira (900k+). This explains why commercial vehicle owners aren’t really complaining about the hike in PMS price as much as private car owners—they have already rigged the system.

There is a 50-metre stretch of road in Sector 68, Gurugram, that separates around 400 to 500 families at M3M Marina from the new master road GMDA is building between Sectors 68 and 69. Fifty metres. That is all. And it has been blocked. M3M Marina's original main gate was designed to open onto this stretch. The road that would lead straight to the Sector 68-69 dividing road and from there to the Sohna Highway near Badshapur. That gate has never opened. Not once. For four to five years, every resident of Marina has been using a single secondary gate that exits onto the Aklimpur-Teekli village road. A broken, patchy road through a village. Not a backup route. The only route. Now, after years of court disputes and a stay that was finally lifted in early 2026, HSVP cleared the encroachments on the Sector 68-69 road. Ninety percent of the land is free. GMDA tenders are nearly done. The road that thousands of residents had been waiting for is finally being built. For Marina, this should have meant one thing. The main gate could finally open. Instead, Supertech sent people to the connecting stretch. They physically dug up the road. Residents, including school buses carrying children, were turned away. Everyone pushed back toward the same secondary gate. The same broken village road. The same 700 to 800 metres of extra distance every single day. For 400 to 500 families, the solution was 50 metres away. It was dug up in front of them. I visited Marina yesterday with a client. The frustration on the ground is not dramatic. It is tired. These are families that have been asking for this access for years. They were told the road would come. Now a master road is actually being built right next to them. And they still cannot reach it. Supertech owns that land. Legally, it is within its rights. Nobody is questioning the title here. But sit with the picture for a second. This is the same Supertech that is under NCLT insolvency proceedings. The same builder whose allottees have been protesting outside HRERA, demanding refunds for flats that were supposed to be delivered in 2017. A company that cannot return a single rupee to its own buyers. Cannot finish its own construction. Cannot respond to its own regulatory orders. That company still had the resources and the intent to station people at a road and physically dig it up. A builder that cannot refund its own buyers always has the budget to block someone else's road. They all do. That is one constant across Gurugram real estate that never changes. This is not a one-off story either. On Golf Course Extension Road, there are societies where residents pay a private landowner hefty monthly rent just to use his vacant plot as a road to reach their own homes. Because the planned connectivity was never built. The pattern repeats everywhere. Builders launch, buyers pay, and the last 50 metres of access becomes someone else's problem. Sometimes it becomes the resident's monthly bill. The Sector 68-69 master road is being built. The hope was real. For 500 families, it still is. They are just waiting for someone to care about 50 metres.

May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? This section of the road is built as an expressway and as such encourages speeding especially at any time beyond midnight. There are no traffic calming measures in place yet it is freely used by pedestrians and Boda-Bodaz like any other city road. Roads are supposed to be designed and constructed bearing in mind the activities that take place around them (Land Use). Interventions to control speed must be implemented if there is a high volume of different road users. They would have got his attention and he would not have died. A glaring example of contractors that do not care about road safety is on the section of Kampala-Masaka in the swampy section of Lwera. The Concrete Barriers are there and in places where they are not, there is nothing preventing a motor vehicle falling off into the swamp. Not even a rope. May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? This section of the road is built as an expressway and as such encourages speeding especially at any time beyond midnight. There are no traffic calming measures in place yet it is freely used by pedestrians and Boda-Bodaz like any other city road. Roads are supposed to be designed and constructed bearing in mind the activities that take place around them (Land Use). Interventions to control speed must be implemented if there is a high volume of different road users. They would have got his attention and he would not have died. A glaring example of contractors that do not care about road safety is on the section of Kampala-Masaka in the swampy section of Lwera. The Concrete Barriers are there and in places where they are not, there is nothing preventing a motor vehicle falling off into the swamp. Not even a rope. At some point in this country, we have to seriously address the thousands of road incidents and accidents happening every year. These guys were pulling dangerous stunts on the Nairobi–Nanyuki Highway, and other road users were genuinely scared to even drive on that road. To make it worse, their number plates were covered. We have lost too many people on our roads. And the hardest part is knowing that a big percentage of these deaths are avoidable. By mid-November 2025, official data showed about 21,042 road crash victims in Kenya, including deaths and injuries. Around 4,195 people were already dead by that point. How many more people must die for us to take this seriously? NTSA KENYA feel tagged!!
