There was a command structure trying to control every aspect of life. The grasshoppers weren’t capitalists. They were central planners using fear, conformity, and numbers to enforce obedience. The hero wasn’t “the collective.” It was the one ant who thought for himself and refused to live for the colony’s rulers. Reich’s message flips the moral on its head. He takes a film about a single individual standing up to authoritarian power and repackages it as a sermon for why you should obey a collective and hand more power to the state. Which tells you everything about his worldview.
