The gravy train has arrived at its final destination. Clearly the increase in ratios for Psych and GP wasn’t the success of #choosepsychiatry as lauded by Wendy Burn CBE et. al but just the path of least resistance for IMGs with nothing to lose. No more!

What a horrible post. The quality of our resident doctors is amazing, yes even including the IMGs. I hope there will still be places for IMGs, they have added so much to our specialty.

What do you find horrible about the fact that the barrier to entry to your specialty is so low IMGs see it as an easy route into the UK, as literally said by an IMG?

Could it be that MSRA is actually a better measure for clinical aptitude than audit or research and that is why our resident doctors are so good?

No it isn’t, it’s disgraceful that the single specialty that looks after the most vulnerable cohort of patients, in which the whole specialty is based on ability to communicate, is entirely dictated by an exam that has no rhyme or reason.

The whole specialty is not based on ability to communicate. It’s important but knowledge and diagnostic skills are too. We are a medical specialty. Plus we teach communication skills during training.

@Xeon4f145d96s1 How anyone can defend not running interviews for effectively future consultant psychiatry posts is beyond me. The lack of professional pride is unbelievable.

@XelenX1 Which completely negates the fact that those who are using it as a stepping stone will have dropped out by ST3.

@wendyburn I seen similar attitudes before on SoMe either this or “CCT & Flee” No bloody wonder we have a problem retaining GPs & the British public are paying for this! Taking the piss!!

@wendyburn Following the U.K. graduates prioritisation law, MSRA is now the “promising” route. IMG be warned!

@wendyburn "The NHS is open. Psychiatry/GP training is the door. You don't even need any experience" Have to respect this guy for his honesty. No pretense about IMGs propping up the NHS and doing jobs that UKMGs don't want to etc.
