I spent a year at university in America, in Cambridge. I never thought that I would live to see America reduced to a laughing stock like this. My God. Donald Trump has truly undressed the empire. The whole world is laughing, including America’s closest ally, Britain. Affordability, home ownership, and health care costs are at the core of people’s concerns — but so are the issues of public safety, immigration, and other quality of life matters. Rather than shy away, Democrats should embrace the debate over who has the better agenda to solve these challenges. Because the American people already know that deploying the National Guard on our streets, firing tear gas at fellow Americans and police officers, and calling for American cities to be the next battle zone is not the solution. To be a true national party, Democrats need to be strong on both cost of living and the cultural front.
