Most people don't realise that for the majority of Muslims, Ramadan is more feasting than fasting. They stuff themselves in the morning, skip lunch, and then in the evening, there is a massive feast. By and large, they east more during Ramadan than normal.

It’s a strictly Halal restaurant in Islington. Set up by this guy and his Muslim partner. They don’t serve alcohol or of course, pork products. They don’t have non-alcoholic beers or spirits, just cordials and juices. I’ve been but wouldn’t go again. I’m not supporting Halal.

Then by that logic, you’d need to be open 24 hours to actually accommodate Ramadan properly. Ramadan forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. Food and drink are only permitted after sunset, when the moon is out. So a bar advertising “Ramadan inclusivity” during the day is functionally meaningless. And let’s be honest — why would a practicing Muslim go to a bar in the first place? You’re primarily serving alcohol, which Islam explicitly forbids. Mocktails don’t change the environment or the purpose of the venue. So this isn’t about meeting religious needs. It’s branding. If you actually cared about accommodation, you’d structure hours and spaces around the practice itself — not slap “Ramadan” on a bar menu and call it virtue. That’s not inclusion. That’s performative optics.
