Loops only work when three things exist: A goal state Claude can recognize A reliable verifier (eval, test, or human) A bounded retry policy Skip any of these and your "loop" is just an expensive way to get the same wrong answer 50 times. Context matters. Verifiers matter more.

the difference btw prompt and loop only matters if you have a working judge. without one the loop hallucinates for 40 iterations then quietly gives up mid-task
