It was a bit of a party because we were able to share the movie with friends and other filmmakers who had never seen the movie. And I got to share it with Will [Forte] and Lana, who never got to see the final movie. So that moment was so charged and electric, and the room played so hot.”

A man who has never worked in a house before decides to attempt to install a roof vent because his home doesn’t have any and it’s causing massive heat spikes in the attic, how did he do, anything you would have done differently? I’ve been in his shoes before, I already told you about the first thing I attempted and I messed it up, not too bad but enough. Another time was when I was installing my first toilet. The one I was replacing leaked at the base. The flange it screwed into was a plastic Oatey flange and where the bolt holds down the toilet was broken. So the first thing I did was shut off the water, I drained the tank and proceeded to undo the bolts. I lifted it straight up and put it in a bag so it wouldn’t drip on the way down the stairs. I unscrewed the broken flange and replaced it with a new one. The problem was that since it was leaking, some of the wood was soft. I know I should have replaced the board but I didn’t. I ended up rotating the flange until I could screw into good dry board. That was my first mistake. Because after I got the new toilet base on, I over tightened it and not only cracked the toilet but I pulled up the flange because the wood was weak. Since I was replacing the tile anyways I ended up removing everything I did and I broke up all the tile and removed it. I took off the board and replaced it with a new one. I retraced my steps after I installed the vinyl floor planks and trimmed them to fit the flange. When I put the toilet back down it wasn’t flush. The old tile was thicker than the planks I put down so what I ended up doing was going to the store and getting silicone shims. In some spots I had to use several, I tightened it down and it worked well. No movement at all. I’m not sure if what I did was right but it worked. To this day that toilet is still in operation and it hasn’t budged since.

'It Conquered the World' (1956), 'Not of This Earth' (1957), 'Attack of the Crab Monsters' (1957), 'The Undead' (1957)... But | really understood for the first time what a director did when I saw 'Rio Bravo' in 1959. There was something about that movie that was like home and I can't really explain it. It was held over in Bowling Green for three or four weeks in a row because people kept coming to see it. I abandoned to see what was new in the other movie house in town to see this movie every weekend again and again because there was something in it that was different from the other westerns I had seen. I had certainly seen John Wayne before. He had become a part of my growing-up experience. He was the action guy, the cowboy. He was the guy in 'Flying Tigers' (1942) who was flying the airplanes. So what was so different about that movie? Then I became aware of this credit: “Howard Hawks’ Rio Bravo.” I looked at the poster and I said to myself, “Who is this guy? He didn't write the movie and he wasn't starring in it so why is his name up here? And why is he last in the credits?” All these things started to occur to me, but it was the emotional impact of the film that got me to start using my brain. Some way I figure out that this director made that movie." James Wong Howe on how the ending of 'On the Waterfront' (1954) was filmed: "[I worked with Kazan] in 'On the Waterfront' (1954). Kazan said, “You know I got an ending to this picture, where Brando is fighting. I need more shots of fighting. Would you do that for me?” I said, “Yes.” The production manager asked me how many lights I wanted. I said, “No lights.” So we went down and shot, and it got later and later and it was getting darker and darker. Finally, I said, “Gee, Gadge [Kazan’s nickname], this is about it.” He said, “I need a shot of Brando. He’s been beaten up so he’s dizzy and he’s walking into the warehouse. The door opens there.” We used a handheld camera. It was an Eyemo that I gave to the operator. I put a piece of chalk down on the cement and said, “Now look through that camera and walk around that chalk mark.” He kept walking and walking, and said, “Gee, I’m getting a little dizzy.” I said, “Keep walking. Keep walking. Okay. Now point the camera at that door and hit the trigger and walk.” He couldn’t walk very steady, so it made a wonderful shot from Brando’s perspective. This man noticed cans of the same brand piling up in his yard so he set up a ring camera and noticed the same vehicle passing by and throwing these cans over and over again but he needed a closer angle so he could get an accurate description of the vehicle so he set up a GoPro, when he finally got the information he needed he tracked the guy down and had an honest conversation with the man and found out he was doing it because of his Trump flag, he went on to explain to the gentleman the ways in which they were more alike than different and gave him an out, if he apologized to him and his family and promised not to do it again to which the man obliged. Too many times we see these situations culminate in violence and that’s exactly what those that propagate this hatred want, it is refreshing to see someone flip the script and handle it like a MAN. Hopefully these gentlemen have a newfound respect for each other and we’ll find a way to be neighborly to one another.
