The HD-2D Dragon Quest grinding experience

Oh this is nothing. I had an encounter where there were 8 Liquid Metal Slimes… Yeah every single one of them ran away turn 1 😔

lol yeah I played through all of 3 and I don’t think I even beat one Liquid Metal slime

Yeah I’m pretty sure they actually dialed the flee rate back a bit in 1&2 cause it was ludicrously high in 3…

I can’t say anything about the other games but it was a lot easier in 11. Special weapons to fight them and better abilities too

@SoulEater923 Those first couple of games are super raw. It's the primordial sludge of jrpgs. 11 is 30 years of lessons and evolution. As cool as the HD-2D games are, you can skip the first like 4 games. Oh and 7, but for different reasons.

@ceebees_ @SoulEater923 where do I start and which do I play? I like dialogue, soundtrack, world, etc, but I kinda didn't like the combat, enemy spam and grinding of the JRPGs I played, I'm probably gonna start with 5, the DS version, since it looks like the best earliest to start from

@thecolemanthe @ceebees_ why'd I play 3 before 1 and 2 then? and 4 has one or not? this might determine if I play it at all, also since you have a cloud PFP, I also never played any final fantasy game, but I think I'm gonna start with 5, only because 3 and 4 have DS remakes so I'll play them later

I think Metal Slimes is a new thing to the remakes thank god cuz the og games are probably really grindy.

I’ve heard basically all of dragon quest 1 was just grinding lol. The grinding in this version isn’t too bad tho. Just wish there was a more reliable way to beat the slimes

Boomerangs were never that effective against Metal Slimes in previous games either. I don't know anything about the HD-2D remake of the original, but if they exist, get any 50/50 Crit/Miss skill/weapon and spam those as crits do not miss and ignore defense.

11? I'd want to start from as early as possible, like I'm playing mega man now, I'm on 7, started on 1 (I'll play the classic games first), I wish I had started on 2 or 4 though

I'd originally start with 5 before knowing of this HD-2D remake that apparently makes 1-3 better enough for me to like them

I spent 2 hours grinding slimes near the mini medal house yesterday T_T

Off topic but im 10.5 hous in DQ3 at the pyramid and party is still only level 15. I feel like ive been grinding past 4 hours (from hour 6.5-10.5 of gameplay). Is that normal??? I feel like leveling up shouldnt take this long. Or is this just how DQ 1-3 are?

That broken beast tamer skill or whatever it’s called from DQ3 was the only way I could hit metal slimes lol

Boomerang is really good for big groups of different enemies. And then the whip is good for groups of one enemy

iirc one of the souped up sigil abilities, i think the lightning one 50/50 crit and wild slide is good for metals

After grinding for a the postgame in 3 HD-2D I was hesitant to pick these up because I thought the grinds here would be worse. Would you say it’s worse to grind in 1-2?

Try use a headman axe (cri or miss) with the falcon slash skill (attack 2 time).

With my old head of a dad playing the HD port can confirm this is all he does. He just suffers the rng of these bastards and the rng of trying to hit them all with boomerangs.
