Later that night, the family reported to hear footsteps in the attic, but no one was found up there. On the night of March 31, the five oldest family members were lured out to the barn one by one and then killed with a mattock. The perpetrator then moved inside, killing the family's infant son and the family maid. As of now, the perpetrator is unknown, and remains one of the most puzzling cases in german history
