The Houston Independent School District announced a plan to eliminate 28 libraries and replace them with a center for work and discipline after allegations of poor academic performance. Antonia Hylton speaks tonight with one librarian and the superintendent to hear both sides.

@ahylton26 Thank you for spotlighting the infamy in our district. I’m all for higher standards, but we can do this without sacrificing libraries, closed classroom doors, special education educators, and respect.

@ahylton26 I don't think there's both sides to this issue. Texas wants to eliminate public schools to push the far right school voucher system which is a money making scheme.

@ahylton26 He actually DID say librians do not bring value. He said elective teachers do not work hard. Nothing he said is what he has been sayjng here.

@amandalitman @ahylton26 You know there aren’t two sides! The discipline center will only discourage children from wanting to attend school. The is what the government wants in order to allegedly drop low performers from the rolls. Better to spend money on helping all children improve.
