In 2013, IBM scientists made the worlds smallest movie using individual atoms, a stop-motion film called “A Boy and His Atom”

It is an art that requires an insane amount of patience, where a few seconds of footage can take hours or sometimes even a day to build. AI can simulate the result quickly, but it often feels too smooth because it tries to make everything perfect. The magic of stop-motion is in the unplanned variations and tiny imperfections in movement or texture. That's what makes it feel alive. ✨

Ultimately, AI can provide the visual result, but it can't provide the human endurance. As long as we value the "hand of the artist," the sheer labor of moving a puppet frame-by-frame will remain a sacred, irreplicable act of storytelling.

1 minute of stop-animation can take around 20-40 days depends on project. Shaun the Sheep is 100% stop-motion animation, created by Aardman Animations using clay models.

Exactly, the handcrafted perfection of stop-motion is next level. Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer isn’t just a video; it was 16-hour-a-day creative torture where he had to lie motionless under a glass sheet. 🤔 Fun Fact: For the fruit scene, Gabriel lay on the floor while real food was animated on his face; the smell of rot was so intense he nearly passed out, but he didn't budge to save the shot. That’s pure grit! 🍎 Did you know? 🤯

The crazy part is that for smooth movement they often shoot 24 separate frames per second. That means thousands upon thousands of tiny adjustments for just one minute of film. This kind of craft will always have a special place.

Good luck getting this image out of your head. Nightmare fuel.

You can generate frames with AI… but you can’t generate the patience, craft, and obsession behind stop-motion.😅😅😅 But Never say Never 🤷🤷🤷🤷

Instead of seeing the hard work put into every aspect of making art like this AI bros are just seeing the cost of it and the complexity of creating this. They rather have cheap and easy than putting any amount of hard work to bring anything like this to life.

People today think it's cheesy when they used stop motion in old horror or fantasy movies, but I always liked the eerie quality of it. You can feel the life force in frame, invisible through filtered time, it's moving the creature as if orchestrating from a different dimension.

👉AI👈 is nothing else but one creative tool that cannot create itself without human imagination and description of the work. So with all due respect....Let's not kid ourselves. There was a time when the introduction of sound in cinema was considered the end of the film industry.

It's done on video, so eventually AI will get 99.9% there.

AI *can* replicate it. But it can't *impress* or *inspire* us the same way. It's the art form we enjoy, not just the final product.

I don't disagree but stop motion has always given me the absolute creeps. Even when I was a little kid watching all the old ones I'm sure everybody used to watch I got a very creepy vibe from it and I've never been comfortable to stop motion lol.

Love for the craft is a two-way street: because the craftsman loves the work, the product is all the more loved by the people. For good or bad, AI is upending the whole table, and nobody knows where things will land.
