Blackstone loves preaching "history lessons" about the Industrial Revolution, but they skip the best part: the massive, no-bailout railroad defaults that wiped out predatory asset owners so the real economy could actually recover.

People today have something like 500,000 more times the amount of light in their lives than the pre-electric era. Think of AI like an info light switch and you start to see what can come.

A compelling analogy but also remember Blackstone is talking its language. AI may become a general-purpose technology on the scale of electrification, yet the real prize will not be the models alone. It will accrue to those who convert intelligence into measurable productivity through data centres, chips, energy, redesigned workflows and skilled people. The Industrial Revolution created enormous wealth but unevenly, slowly and with many failed investments along the way. AI will likely do the same. The direction is convincing; the timing and distribution of returns remain the real questions.
