The interviewer handled this so damn well. I probably would've ran out, crying lol. Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington went on CBS Sunday Morning during the Othello press run

Don't read too much into this and be party poopers, guys. Denzel wasn't mean*, he was direct. And educated many (Mount Vernon & theater). Always correct people. Do you sit and let people mispronounce your name? 🤦🏾♀️

….bc Bill Whitaker is a consummate professional & Denzel is giving constructive criticism. y’all don’t have a modicum of patience so I understand why this seems so harsh lol

I said the interviewer handled well but I also didn't say it was harsh. EYE know that I am sensitive so I would've cried. But in general, this is how us New Yorkers are...

Honoring the Memory of Steven Sotloff, of Blessed Memory Today, we remember Steven Sotloff, a courageous Jewish journalist whose life was tragically taken by ISIS a decade ago. His bravery and dedication to truth continue to inspire us. The greatest tribute we can offer is to ensure that terrorist groups like ISIS, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and their ilk are eradicated. Our mission is clear: to make this world safer for all—except those who seek to destroy it through terror. Who stands with us in this fight?

Jake sat there so quietly I’m screaming

Nah this is BS. Denzel's done shitloads of Hollywood films and a handful of theatre productions. He is the archetypal Hollywood actor and acting like he's Ian McKellen

Some folks on here would say Denzel being “obtuse.” 😏🙂↔️ Too often, folks hurl “obtuse” (or worse) when commenters respond with a question or make a counterpoint. Defensiveness is easier than clarifying, reframing…or simply considering another dimension of the topic. This was well handled by both Denzel and Bill.

i love how denzel, still respectfully, differentiated between the screen and stage actor— because they are frankly in leagues of their own and success in one realm shouldn’t immediately equate to success in the other to the viewer

Nothing wrong with the question or the answer IMO. As the interviewer I would have thanked Denzel for the clarification that viewers would have found interesting and may not have known.

in my eyes Denzel is always so reasonable and polite that I never get the feeling the interviewer is being humiliated, even when he's being very cold and direct

He ain’t do his research 😂 Denzel has said several times how film just paid his bills but he’s a stage actor. He don’t even rly got respect for any actor who hasn’t done theater
