Happy Big 8-0, Phil Tuckett! NFL Films Legend Phil was a rookie receiver for the Chargers in 1968 who penned a "rookie's diary" article that was published in SPORT Magazine in 1969. His article caught the attention of NFL Films founder Ed Sabol, who urged Phil to quit playing football and come work for him. Tuckett initially refused, but after being cut by the Chargers in training camp, he reached out to Sabol and was hired by NFL Films. Knowing how to write well, but having never shot film or produced, Phil "learned by doing" — spending the next 38 years as a producer, writer, director, and cinematographer for NFL Films. Over that span, he won 30 individual Emmy Awards for his work. Additionally, Phil was responsible for creating and producing the acclaimed "Lost Treasures of NFL Films" series.
