This, the brave little toaster, and the wild robot are very adult movies for kids. You don't understand these scenes until you grow up but are even more heart breaking.

The Iron Giant (1999) still hits like few animated films ever have. Brad Bird poured his heart into it after losing his sister to gun violence, which makes the film’s anti-weapon message even more powerful.

The Iron Giant (1999) builds to “I am Superman…” and then just lets it land. A story about a weapon choosing not to be one, and that final sacrifice hits every single time. Absolutely devastating.

The Iron Giant (1999) deserved a far bigger audience than it found in theaters. Brad Bird’s debut has quietly become one of the most beloved animated films ever made, proving that word of mouth can outlast any opening weekend.

“You stay. I go. No following.” Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant (1999) makes that line feel earned. The entire film builds toward a choice that transforms a weapon into a hero, and the ending still stands among cinema’s most powerful sacrifices.

The Iron Giant (1999) had some of the strongest test screenings Warner Bros. had seen in years, but opened with barely any push and faded quickly. Later on, it just kept growing, that ending doing the heavy lifting every single time.

The Iron Giant (1999) flopped theatrically even though critics loved it. Brad Bird has said WB knew it was great but simply didn’t know how to sell it. The movie survived because kids kept discovering it on TV, then showing it to other kids.
