They were misinterpreted: 1 & 2) Despite economic numbers, most Americans VIEWED the economy as SUCKY … to say the least. 3) Even though the US is not directly involved in a war, the Israel/Mideast situation & the Ukraine mess are foreign policy disasters —not to mention the horribly embarrassing Afghanistan pullout. 4) There WAS unrest at colleges; it was all over the news for months. 5) No Incumbent. 6) CERTAINLY no party mandate for the incumbent. 7) Absolutely NO foreign policy success. Your “Keys” were correct & Trump won.

Perhaps the keys couldn’t account for the era of misinformation we’re in. We have half the country that live in a completely different universe and reality than we do. So even if there is no major public unrest for example, they believe that there is.
