The Lakers’ draft history is INSANE 🤯

@_JasonLT This is flat out incorrect. Kyle Kuzma was extended in 2020. And to say they’ve gotten nothing out of the draft is ridiculous, it gave them the young pieces to get AD and win a chip.

Brian is half right. We signed Kyle Kuzma to an extension in 2020. We traded him for Westbrook before the extension kicked in, but we did sign it. Kuz was technically Brooklyn's draft pick but we traded D'lo for the pick so I consider him our draft pick.

I know you both are smart guys so how do you actually think this is true? Kuzma? And Hart, BI, Lonzo, Dlo, Wagner, Clarkson, Nance all good late picks who were traded and later signed extensions. This is clickbait and lacks so much context.

it's Los Angeles. Unlike cities like Memphis or Orlando, they don't really need draft talent because they can attract free agents so easily.

We also traded a lot of our FRPs in the LeBron/AD era. We traded the 2019, 2022, 2025 for AD . Traded the 2020 pick for Schroder and the 2021 pick for Westbrook. That makes whiffing on the 2023 and 2024 FRPs all the more impactful, but it does add some context.

They got a title cause they drafted well. They wouldn't have got AD otherwise. This is a myth.

Even with Austin Reeves, they still have gotten nothing out of the draft because he came to them undrafted! But, all that will change within the next 10 years.

Drafting 6’6 point guard JHS should have automatically triggered the addition of a 6’5 catch & shoot style veteran 2-Guard before Training Camp. 😪 Via trade or free agency
