The Learjet 60's flightpath with weather radar data overlaid. Radar data shown is approximately matched to the altitude of the plane (so sometimes it's not the lowest radar sweep showing)

The rapid descent + the altitude-matching is also why the radar changes so rapidly at the end. Radars scan at multiple elevations, so this is progressing downward through the layers of data to match the plane's descent.

Looks like a couplet there. Might've flown through a mid to upper level meso.

Looks like it flew into the meso of a rotating supercell

Her radar view likely didn't include a visual of the fact that the cell was a 40k updraft. Now her tablet likely had that information and was possibly not checked. Idk.

It's funny how many times I've seen almost this exact plot. Not anything against you or anything, but so many people have vibe coded this same exact plot and I just think it's kinda funny. Every time with a different title but the same plots with a slightly different colortable and title. I'm also vibe/slop coding too so I can't really say anything negative, it's just interesting that it's built the same plot so many times so similarly

Thats not what you need to reference.. Look at water vapor and co² Did it fly through one of the areas of low level glaciation.. Lear not hurricane hunter material call me shocked..

I could probably run a loop through this product too, hmm.

Something like this, though we didn't have a meso sector so the sat data is pretty low cadence

Looks like he was flying where he shouldn't have

Now… go backwards…. wtf did it go that way??

They turned directly into a nasty storm cell with wings that were already icing up - and that's basically what very likely ended them. Had they gone around it instead...

@ChieferEvan The convection and updraft punched upwards as the plane was entering it. Poor timing on that occurrence as well.

What app is this?

It's a python script that takes in the flight data and radar data and plots them out like this

Whoa, the descent started when they were in that yellow patch.

Flying into bright red = bad 😬

It's literally murder when you make such decisions - period! Pilots kill innocent people every dam day with poor dangerous decisions. The ONLY reason commercial aviation is safe is because nearly ALL the decision making has been REMOVED from the ATP pilot.

That's not what the onboard radar showed. It was almost certainly attenuated by a thunderstorm farther west.

holy crap!

> tops at FL450 it doesn't matter what you paint at that altitude, it is stupid and dangerous
