The Visor was lowered 5º for takeoff and 12.5º for landing. With the high attack angles the streamlined nose would prevent the pilots seeing correctly during take-off and landing operations. Thus the "droop". At least that's what we were taught in class.

Sad I never got to ride on one of these.

I think you mean the droop snoot. The snoot droops.
