How is it a "fair share" when the people on top don't get back nearly as much as the people that hardly pay in? Social security is 6.2% for everyone. If I make $200,000 per year then I'll pay in $480,000 over 40 years. If I make $40,000 per year then I'll pay in $96,000 over 40 years. When I retire, I'll make $943 per month, regardless of how much I paid in. If it were "fair" then the person that paid in 480k would get 12 times what the person that put in 96k gets.
