We begin the video with an explanation of the Lightning Network. You will learn: - What a second layer is. - Why we need second layers. - What a payment channel is.

After that, we use our @umbrel node to set up the Lightning node. For this tutorial, we use LND, as most applications we want to use later only work on LND. I also show you how to change the name (alias) of your node.

Once the Lightning Node is operational, we use @RTL_App to open payment channels. I'll guide you on how to open a payment channel, track its status via @mempool, and find reliable peers using @ambosstech.

Balancing payment channels can be quite challenging. Let me show you my favorite method: using subatomic swaps on @Boltzhq.

A Lightning Node is fun, but it's only useful if you can use it on the go. I will show you how to use @Tailscale to set up my favorite Lightning wallet: @ZeusLN.

@umbrel @RTL_App @Boltzhq @ZeusLN Consider using @getAlby Hub and Alby Go for a better UX. Onwards! 🫡

Workshop time! Ok. So, you're earning your salary in sats, and spending what you have to. We use Blink – The Everyday Bitcoin Wallet, because it has a super useful batch payment feature, it has stablesats, and because it just works really well. But, whatever you don't spend, you save. And, off course, you're saving using self-custody, preferably a hardware wallet. However, you wanna avoid creating UTXOs smaller than 500k sats. But it takes a while to save that much, and, in the future, it's gonna take even longer. The question is: For what length of time do you want to use custodial services with which to accumulate sats? Perhaps, for now, it takes only a month, or two, or six. And maybe that's OK, maybe not. But long term, it will take longer and longer, and certainly, once we get to a point where it takes years to accumulate 500k sats, no matter how trustworthy your custodial lightning wallet, you wanna avoid trusting them for that long. Because things can happen that are beyond their control. Where do you accumulate sats, that's an easy middle-ground between custodial lightning and cold storage? For this workshop, LuthandoSABTC⚡🇿🇦 demonstrated to our team how to move sats from Blink – The Everyday Bitcoin Wallet to AQUA Wallet 🌊⚡️, from custodial lightning to L-BTC, where one can accumulate sats, and rely on a form of 'federated custody'. Then, once a certain threshold is reached, from AQUA Wallet 🌊⚡️ straight to a hardware wallet, using Boltz - Non-Custodial Bitcoin Bridge. Off course, this is not the perfect solution. There is no such such thing. And if you have a better suggestion please comment below. But the important point is, we're asking the question and learning to implement potential solutions.
