It’s to take the ability to do the math in your head away.

They did this to math to make it impossible for our kids to learn. This isn’t easier. It’s not a more effective method. They’ve done this to reading too.

Give him a problem like 1,345+2,659 and he'll be a senior citizen before he's done working it out. Plus he'll need a bigger white board. My kids were taught some weird math way, I taught them the old ways.

Don’t worry. They’ll teach the algorithm after show the logic behind the algorithm. They probably did similar stuff with you and number lines, too, whether you remember it or not

@Faim_Buford Ok see yeah I’d fail school at that point. Unnecessarily mathematical bs annoys the hell out of me. Algebra damn near took me out with all the extra step I had to take just to solve it. I hate math but I love science. I’m weird like that.

This is probably done to introduce children to what numbers symbolize. I'm sure they don't do this in grade and high school. Wait...I forgot we live in bizarre world now - so maybe they do. Please home-school your children.

I failed high school math 3 times. I got a professor in college who explained how math worked (which is what the kid is showing) and went through calculus. Not saying thr first isn't faster, I am only saying that I need to take a carburetor apart to fix it. For some, they need to know why before how.
