Alaska has an unparalleled mineral base and many promising projects in development, but we need additional policies that will facilitate domestic production and processing. I’m committed to working with this administration to make that a priority. While we’re at it, we should explore whether it makes sense to revive the Bureau of Mines to bring a strategic, coordinated emphasis to the start of our supply chains—domestic mineral development.

The Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 proposes to amend Section 10A of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007. The amendment is an enabling provision. It does not impose any tax or transaction charge on UPI users. It enables the Government to specify, through notification, the electronic payment modes that will continue to receive statutory protection against charges. Once the Bill is passed by Parliament, the UPI and Services Steering Committee headed by NPCI will consider and decide whether any MDR should be introduced and, if so, its scope and structure. As part of Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) efforts to ensure transparency and equality of opportunities, MEM has allocated mining concession areas offered for investment to local and international firms for exploration and mining of national priority mineral resources. MEM has also allocated Public mining sites for industrial minerals based on the preliminary studies offered to local companies, away from residential areas and Wadi streams.
