This is exactly it. The mini skirt phenomenon is pure optics politics: you grab one flattering image from history and pretend it tells the truth about an entire ideology and its record on women. What’s so grating with Hasan is that it’s never an accident. He knows perfectly well that the same systems he’s sanitising have jailed, beaten and killed women for how they dress and what they say, right now, not in some distant past, but he’ll zoom in on whatever clip helps him reframe legitimate criticism as bigotry. It’s the same pattern every time: he demands absolute nuance and context when it protects his side, then suddenly becomes incurious about context when it comes to the people actually living under these laws, especially dissidents and women. That isn’t principled anti-racism, it’s PR for power dressed up as moral high ground. He is a twat.
