The deterioration of the situation in eastern Syria is accelerating. 🇸🇾 In July and July, protests by the people of Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Hasakah have increased considerably, whilst the economic situation has become increasingly precarious following the fall of the AANES in January. Like the Lebanese army, the Internal Security Forces are unable to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons. The “Hezbollah state” has the power to arrest (in effect, kidnap) members of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and negotiate with the Lebanese state for their release. On January 23, 2026, a police patrol of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, ISF (قوى الامن الداخلي ) stopped two Hezbollah trucks in the Al-Tayoune (الطيونة) area of Beirut, near a police station and military base. The trucks were parked suspiciously, had no license plates, and had tinted windows. When the police patrol approached to check the trucks, Hezbollah operatives attacked the patrol. At the end of the confrontation, Hezbollah operatives detained one of the security forces personnel and managed to prevent the patrol from uncovering the contents of the trucks. According to local reports, the trucks were carrying Hezbollah military equipment that had been smuggled from Syria through one of the illegal border crossings with Lebanon. The Hezbollah trucks continued on their way toward the “security square” in Dahiya. In light of the incident, negotiations began between the State of Lebanon and the “State of Hezbollah.” Hezbollah's representative in the negotiations was Ali Ayoub, head of Hezbollah's Security Committee, which is in effect the independent police force of the “State of Hezbollah.” Following the negotiations, Hezbollah released the security forces officer it had detained and promised to hand over the trucks to the security forces at a “later date.” In practice, this means that the trucks and their contents will not be handed over to the security forces. The Hezbollah operatives involved were not arrested or investigated. Hezbollah does as it pleases in Lebanon. This is yet another test case, this time in the context of internal security forces, which demonstrates the inability of the Lebanese security forces in general to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons. This does seem to be an absolute matter of substantial absurdity.

New on the SDF-Damascus integration agreement: • Yesterday and today, a sizable number of Damascus-linked Syrian Interior and Defence Ministry personnel entered Hasakah city in preparation for taking over the city's security affairs. We reported five days ago, citing reliable sources, that additional Damascus-appointed security personnel were set to enter Hasakah in the coming days. • Based on this change on the ground, we are recolouring two areas within Hasakah and the Qamishli countryside to green, denoting Syrian government forces. The entire SDF pocket is now nominally under Damascus control, but outside these areas that control remains nominal, which is why we are keeping the rest yellow, where the SDF holds real power on the ground. • Two indicators that security control of the city is being taken over: yesterday, a convoy of around 100 military police, a Defence Ministry force, was stationed in the northwest of the city, and today, some 300 to 350 personnel from the Special Tasks Forces were stationed on the eastern and east-northeastern edge of the city. • Today's deployment is especially large because the role of the Special Tasks Forces is rapid intervention and dealing with exceptional security incidents, including serious disturbances, hostage situations and other sudden security threats. It is a strong sign that they are there in preparation for a further deployment of Syrian government forces into the city. According to a reliable source embedded with the deployed security force, the task forces are one of the first operational components of a phased takeover, providing an early high-readiness security capability while the rest of the state security institutions are deployed sequentially. • In the coming days, civil police, road security, further military police and other security agencies are set to enter the city to take over their respective functions across it. These forces also include the integrated SDF-linked Asayish personnel, who will form part of the broader security structure under Damascus command. This is important because it shows that while the personnel are being absorbed, as Damascus has previously stated, the command sits with Damascus. • Two other points are worth noting. The three key security appointments in Hasakah province have now been made, and all three are Damascus-appointed, with none coming from the SDF. This matters because the key goal is command. • Marwan al-Ali was already appointed head of Internal Security in the province, which oversees and coordinates the Interior Ministry's security presence, including civilian policing, public security, criminal security operations and civilian checkpoints. Imad Fawaz al-Ayash has been appointed head of military police, which enforces military law and discipline, deals with violations by military personnel, carries out military arrests and maintains military order. • This is significant because while three brigades in Hasakah province are populated by former SDF personnel, the discipline side is handled directly by Damascus, which means they will not function autonomously, and in cases of violation the Damascus-controlled military police structure may intervene. • The third post went to Thaer Obeid al-Bilal, appointed head of military security, which broadly concerns the security of the military establishment itself: force protection, security oversight, vetting, counter-intelligence functions and the security of installations, although the precise formal remit of the reorganised Military Security structure has not been publicly detailed. Both his appointment and that of al-Ayash were publicly confirmed during the latest integration meetings. • Today, importantly, the executive office of Hasakah province held its first meeting. We have reported on the appointments to the executive office, which is numerically dominated by SDF-linked figures. As we argued at the time, this executive office is more civilian-facing, and Damascus appears to have compromised by allowing the SDF a stronger civilian-facing role in the province while retaining tighter control over the coercive institutions. That is what is now happening on the ground. • Aside from that, in the coming weeks more Interior Ministry personnel are expected to enter Qamishli as part of the deployment of Internal Security from Qamishli towards Derik/al-Malkiyah. Damascus-linked Internal Security forces are also expected to be deployed to the Semalka border crossing. • This is significant because Semalka has already been administratively integrated under the Syrian central government, while the security side has been integrated only on paper, with almost all personnel on the ground being former SDF or Autonomous Administration-linked figures. • It is now likely that Damascus will deploy its own forces and absorb some of the remaining SDF and Asayish personnel as part of this broader mixed force. The distinction matters, because absorption into a mixed force leaves these personnel without exclusive control of these areas. • How extensive the deployment will be is unclear. In Qamishli, for instance, no final arrangement appears to have been reached, but the outcome is likely to be a mixed force of integrated SDF Asayish and Damascus-linked security. • For now, we have changed the colour only of the Hasakah pocket and the triangle towards Qamishli, because the security environment there has already changed to a degree that warrants it. Mr. William Ruto has spent over Kshs. 1 billion on bribes in Ol Kalou Constituency, and it is not working. And it will not work! He has spent Kshs. 10 billion on projects, and it is not working. And it will not work! Simple! He is now pushing the IEBC to postpone the election and give him time to splash more money and see whether it will work. The new plan is to unleash goons this weekend to cause violence and give the IEBC the reason they so desperately need to postpone the election slated for 16th July 2026. If the IEBC cannot handle a simple by-election, claiming electoral malpractices, how do they plan to convince Kenyans that they can oversee the General Election? It is absurd that the IEBC has looked the other way as Cabinet Ministers and Principal Secretaries openly bribe voters and campaign in violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct. The IEBC Chairperson is clearly an appendage of Mr. William Ruto. I have information that Mr. William Ruto has demanded that the IEBC either assure him that they will announce the UDA candidate as the winner or postpone the by-election. From where I sit, I believe they will postpone the by-election after an orgy of violence by state-sponsored militia. The IEBC should NOT and must NOT postpone the Ol Kalou by-election. The people of Ol Kalou are ready to elect their new Member of Parliament and have a constitutional right to be represented in the National Assembly. The IEBC should conduct the by-election in accordance with the law and ensure there is no violence or ballot stuffing. If the IEBC has no capacity to conduct a single by-election, then Kenyans will conclude that it cannot conduct the 10th August 2027 General Election, and all the commissioners must resign with immediate effect. The SA Police Service 🇿🇦 says it has “taken note of a video depicting alleged preferential treatment and favouritism given to an accused person who is currently in police custody.l “At the time of the incident, the accused who is currently in police custody, is seen being allowed physical contact with his spouse which is not allowed. SAPS management is investigating this incident and internal departmental processes are underway against the members concerned. The SAPS will also establish if the members searched the contents of the bag of the spouse to ensure that the content may not be used to facilitate an escape or endanger the lives of others…”

Iraqi 🇮🇶 Interior Ministry confirms American 🇺🇸 journalist Shelly Kittleson was kidnapped by Iranian 🇮🇷backed militias, says a foreign journalist kidnapped by unknown assailants in Baghdad "The Ministry of Interior announces that this evening, a foreign journalist was kidnapped by unknown individuals. Security forces immediately launched an operation to apprehend the perpetrators, acting on precise intelligence and through intensive field operations, tracking the kidnappers' movements. The pursuit resulted in the interception of a vehicle belonging to the kidnappers, which overturned as they attempted to flee. Security forces were able to arrest one of the suspects and seize one of the vehicles used in the crime. The Ministry affirms that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining individuals involved, secure the release of the kidnapped journalist, and take all necessary legal measures against all those involved in this criminal act, in accordance with the law. The investigation is still underway to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident, and further details will be provided later.
