I can verify that, I was a Gunner’s Mate, and helped load this many times. The Projectiles and powders are hand-loaded by the crew. The powder/projectile pairings are stored in a revolving magazine, ready for fairly rapid fire (considering the size of the round is 5” diameter).

That beginning part is not how its loaded, its done by personnel in the lower handling compartment
