Palantir increasingly reminds me of the corporation in Soylent Green. Not because they're secretly turning people into crackers xX although give Silicon Valley another decade Xx but because of what they represent: the private company that slowly stops selling products and starts becoming part of the machinery that runs society itself. And that slogan is almost hilariously honest: “Own the system.” There it is. No bullshit. Not “improve the system”. Not “serve the system”. Own it. Give us your data. Your infrastructure. Your institutions. Don't worry, we'll optimise everything for you. The same old promise, wrapped in black minimalist design and Silicon Valley messianism. Palantir doesn't just sell software. It sells governments, armies and intelligence agencies the ability to see more, connect more, predict more and ultimately decide more. At some point, the question becomes rather uncomfortable: when a private corporation becomes the technological nervous system of public power, who exactly owns whom? In Soylent Green, Charlton Heston eventually discovers the horrifying truth and screams: “Soylent Green is people!” Perhaps our version will be slightly different. The system runs on people. We are the raw material. And while they’re busy telling us to “own the system”, the system is quietly learning how to own us.

It would be cool to get a subscription based affordable scaled down version of Palantir Ontology + AIP as a consumer level personal data analytics tool for a cloudless local operating system. Personal secure data sovereignty for the everyday citizen with data paradigm dominance.

"Own the system" means own the layer where models get swapped — which commoditizes the labs and makes the orchestration layer the thing you can't leave. Same pitch every middleware vendor has made since the ESB era, and it worked then too: interchangeable parts, irreplaceable socket.

Palantir promises 'reducing cost without surrendering control', but how do you actually regression test those dynamic prompt and logic shifts in production? One automated tweak to a prompt will silently break your downstream parsers.

This is the right framing. The model is just one component of the production system. The real optimization happens across routing, prompts, context, logic and evaluation. Being able to swap those pieces without rebuilding the whole stack is where AI gets much more practical at scale. We build AI systems with that same focus on control and real-world performance:

Evolve optimizes whatever you tell it counts as success. Palantir’s own workflow lets users choose representative test cases, scoring criteria, acceptable output divergence and iteration limits, then searches models/prompts against that boundary. Useful engineering, but “better overall system performance” is only as strong as the validator’s coverage. Once optimization becomes cheap, the scarce asset is an eval that still measures reality after the optimizer has learned it.
