Lecturer or not, no staff has a right to destroy someone's property. If the student was stepping out of line he should've simply seized the iPhone as a punishment & give it back later after they acknowledged their mistake. Another option was to walk the person out of his class. This is wrong on so many levels, & will lead to resentment.

Whatever is his reason for this... He is WRONG! When you exercise power above its limit Yes, Lecturers are kings in their domain (that is, in their university), but no Lecturer should ever forget that there is still life outside the university 😭😭😭
