“The most dangerous reasoning in policy is, ‘Something must be done. This is something. Therefore it must be done,'" says Chris Hayes. "Yes, this campaign of bombing and maybe ground incursion into Gaza is something. But no, it does not need to be done."

@TheTNHoller @chrislhayes i have said it since Oct 7: Israel is very likely to use this as an "excuse" to rid itself of its "Palestinian problem"

@chrislhayes Right, Chris - but paragliding into a heavily armed neighbor nation that has the power to destroy you is also something that did not have to be done but was done. There are consequences.

@chrislhayes That was me. I was on the fringe of public opinion at the time. And I was shunned for it. Now, as then, history will bear out that bombing civilians in order to “get the terrorists” is not a solution. It’s not only morally wrong; it creates more terrorists. Never ending cycle.

U.S. went after Al Qaeda and ISIS after 9/11. Did @allinwithchris say that was a bad idea? And by the way, against all prognostications, the U.S. hasn’t been hit again like that since our self-declared war on terror. Israel isn’t attacking for “vengeance.” It’s a war on terror to take out the threat against Israel.

@chrislhayes Chris I loved your commentary re Israel/Hamas. In my whole adult life the US government has granted billions of dollars to Israel. What have we got for that? Is this conflict closer to resolution today than it was 50 years ago? Surely it’s time to embark on a different policy

@chrislhayes Will we ever get an accurate account of how many Americans have been killed by Israeli bombs?

To put in context, it is as if 49,000 would have died in 9/11. That is the terror that Israel faced. So, with all due respect, Israel refuses to live with an existential threat, that has proven its barbaric genocidal goals, on its borders. Hamas can surrender. Instead of asking the attacked to relent from defending itself, ask the attackers to surrender.

@chrislhayes While the attack by Hamas should be widely condemned, my question is how are Palestinians expected to respond to not only a 16 yr blockade & resultant humanitarian crisis (US/Israel/Egypt support) & a 50 yr occupation of their land with expanding Israeli settlements?

@chrislhayes Chris, like everyone else, has no other better solution. Like everyone else, he's great at telling Israel what NOT to do, but can't tell Israel what TO do. Let's note that if Hamas had attacked the USA and killed thousands of people, Gaza would've been bombed and invaded.
