Palestinians in Gaza preparing for a BBC report to “show the horrors” of the war. They’re using makeup to create the desired images. This isn’t new. It’s a well-known tactic — staging and exaggerating suffering specifically for Western cameras. The BBC and other outlets continue to treat these performances as credible journalism. How much of what we’ve seen was real, and how much was performed for the cameras?

I recently FOIA’d a shooting in Peoria that wasn’t very exciting at all but I ended up watching all 6 hours of bodycam footage anyways. In this video: -the crowd won’t let anyone near the guy who’s shot in the chest. -the crowd fights the cops, who have med kits and are trying to rescue their friend. -because of the violent crowd, fire and EMS are 6 minutes late (time is kind of important with a sucking chest wound). -a cop loses a very important staccato magazine. -after fire and ems arrive there are still several felony arrests for fighting cops. I also forgot how fun it is to watch the police reaction in the aftermath of dealing with large crowds of stupid people.
