The New York Times has identified 34 operations known as Bitcoin mines in the U.S., all of which are putting immense pressure on the power grid and creating costs for everyone around them, most of whom have nothing to do with Bitcoin.

@nytimes This is one of the most disingenuous things I’ve ever seen. PSA everyone - this is not how you determine the carbon footprint of an energy intensive facility like this.

@nytimes that is a parody video. you may not have intended that, but that's what it is.

@nytimes 10/10 science 🧪 Really promising conclusion ☑️ Just one thing - next time can you please check inside of a Bitcoin?

@nytimes I can’t believe we actually need to make videos like this.

@nytimes NYTimes Bldg illuminating the NYC skyline, I wonder how much carbon emissions that requires!? Obviously their heating bill is offset by all the natural “gaslighting” they produce.

@nytimes This ain't it y'all. By this logic, air conditioning, houses and office buildings all emit zero CO2. Go stand outside a nat. gas power plant and hold that detector up to a smoke stack then post a vid. That's where the CO2 emissions are (and it's what NYT called out).

@nytimes Walking around the facility w/ a CO2 meter might be the most ridiculous and disingenuous argument I have ever seen. The CO2 impact arises at the power plants providing energy to this absolute waste of electricity.

@nytimes This research could go down as the most important strategic research in US history. Well done

@nytimes This is like calling an electric car zero emission because the coal & fossil fuels powering it are burned miles away at the power plant.
