The New Yorker recently released an article about why patriotism is "problematic." If you grew up only seeing America's sins, then I can see how you hold this view. But EVERY country has its sins. The bigger question is: Is it striving to be better? That's what real patriotism... is. It's not flag waving, MAGA hat-wearing, partisan jingoism. It's a love for your country and a wonder of what it could be and what it has been for many: a refuge, a promise, a stubborn belief that ordinary people can govern themselves. Loving our country doesn’t mean ignoring the ledger. Two things can be true at the same time. Patriotism is seeing the scars of our history and still choosing to sit at the table. The idea that 'ALL men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness', is still worth striving for. Yes, indeed, this is lawlessness by any standard. Even by banana republic standards, this is still lawlessness. Your country has a constitution, it has a government, it has a police service, and it has a ruling party. I am sure you can see that some of the people there are actually wearing ruling party T-shirts. It is lawless regardless of whoever does it. It is an embarrassment to South Africa as a country, what you are doing and what you are encouraging people to do. Your country has an immigration service. If people are in your country illegally, they should be arrested and deported through lawful processes. You do not go around destroying property, tearing down markets, and attacking people. It is illegal regardless of whoever does it. It is not illegal because I have said so. It is illegal because the laws of your country make it so. This is vigilantism, pure and simple, and it is tainting the reputation of South Africa, not only across Africa but across the world. If you have got satellite television in your home, you can see that these actions are being reported everywhere. It is not good for your country. This kind of barbarism undermines the rule of law, fuels division, and damages South Africa’s standing as a constitutional democracy. It is the actions of a few that are tainting the reputation of many. The average South African is not mindless like this. They respect the law, and they respect the fact that among them, in their communities, there are people from other countries. If those people are in the country illegally, you report them and the law takes its course through proper processes of arrest and deportation. You do not descend into mob justice, lawlessness, and destruction. That is not who South Africans are, and it must not be normalised.

On the eve of America's 250th birthday, I was honored to visit the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and have a conversation with his great-great-grandson Ted Roosevelt V on what this day means. 250 years ago, a group of imperfect people did something extraordinary. They declared that liberty belonged to the people, not a king, and that America's future would always be determined by its citizens. The American story is still being written. Every generation has had to defend, strengthen, and extend the American promise. The story of America isn't that we've always lived up to our ideals. It's that we've never stopped striving to. That's what makes this country exceptional. As we celebrate 250 years of independence, let's remember that patriotism isn't about pretending America is perfect. It's about believing America is worth fighting for, worth improving, and worth passing on stronger than we found it. Our most successful presidents understood that and kept their eyes focused on the prize: America.

Frost: For so long, the right wing has held up patriotism as a vibe, as an aesthetic. But patriotism is more than bald eagles and flags and beer. Patriotism is about loving the people who live in the damn country — every single one of them. And if, after an American citizen is murdered in the middle of a neighborhood, after dropping off her kid at school, if you can’t come to the mic — no matter your political party, no matter what you came for — and express just a shred of humanity, you are not a patriot. You do not love this country, and you do not love its people.

Some of the media do get it. One of the reasons Pauline is getting such support at the moment is because of her authenticity. She doesn’t move with the wind like most other politicians. She has been fearless in standing up for what she believes in and saying what she thinks. None of the uniparty politicians can compete with that. What drives Pauline is a deep patriotism and love of country. At the end of the day, this is all about our great country and the action we need to take to get it back on track.

MSM have stated up again on labeling us as Christian Nationalists. I appreciate how this guy explains it all. We rely on our Declaration of Independence to secure our rights. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Let us stay vigilant and not let MSM flip the narrative on who we are and our core beliefs. Love of God and love of nation are 2 separate ideals.

This is not the only vision for what it looks like to have politics in this country—that is so divorced from the needs and wants of everyday people. And what we are looking to show in New York City is an alternative to what has led so many to become disenchanted with the political process. We want to show that not only can government work, but it must, and that at its core, our responsibility is to working people—to ensure that we’re doing everything to make their lives easier. That has to be what drives our actions, and for too long, government has felt more like a distraction than a fulfillment of the needs of the people who’ve been left behind by the politics of today.

It's less adversity to be average in the world. The consequences of being average aren't easy. We end up wearing them. There's strain and struggle that comes with that too. I'm going to tell you the truth. It is harder. It is. The question is: Is it worth it? Some people say, "Oh it's not harder work." Yes it is. It's harder work. You can pursue comfort or you can pursue excellence. If we pursue comfort, we gotta give up some excellence. But if we pursue excellence, then we're just going to face more adversity. Everyone who's ever accomplished something excellence has had to overcome it. We are here today for a reason. Two reasons actually. Reason #1 is let's make sure that we identify and realize the opportunities that are in front of us. Reason #2 is let's make sure that we are preparing for the adversity that those opportunities require. And just understand: every single time you lever up your opportunities and you identify, "Oh there's something more I can do, more I can achieve. I can get better. I can earn more. I can do this." It's going to be matched with the adversity that comes with it. I want to make sure we are prepared for both of those, so that we're not chasing big opportunities and then getting mad when things start getting harder along the way. Is that fair?
