The NFL’s rules for supplemental draft eligibility don’t include a purity test. If you weren’t eligible in April and become eligible by late June, you are eligible for the supplemental draft.

“Eligibility” and “right to do something” aren’t the same thing, and you know it.

Why does the NFL have to bend over backwards for someone that doesn't work for them, or the NFLPA? Could I go and sue them to have a supplemental draft because I, a 50 something overweight guy with fake hips and a bad back, want to be drafted?

Which is still at the sole discretion of the NFL. This is a classic "juice not worth the squeeze" situation. The value he might add just not worth it.

And you'd think it would be illegal to suspend a player for something he did before he became a pro but the NFL did just that with Terrelle Pryor. He got 5 games for free tattoos!!! This kid gambled on his own team. Watch Sorsby get drafted and suspended next Spring.

I’m missing the part where anything says he’s owed the opportunity to enter the draft or be a part of the NFL? When did it become a right?

Nah. He is getting a suspension, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get drafted next year either.

The supplemental draft is not an obligation. A player has to petition the league and the league has sole discretion to hold or not hold a draft. Just because you are eligible doesn't mean they are require to have one.

They said they don't have to hold one. Being eligible for it is not the issue.

But it’s their discretion to hold a supplementary draft or not. They decided not to, so fuck off

And the NFL’s rules clearly state that they don’t have to hold a supplemental draft if they choose not to. From the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article 6: "If a player who was not eligible for the Draft in any League Year becomes eligible after the date of the Draft, he will be eligible to be selected in a Supplemental Draft, *if the League elects to conduct such a Draft*…”

Only current members under a CBA are covered. He has no entitlements or expectations under the CBA. He applied for special consideration and the NFL said no, we’re not going to hold a special draft for you. The NFL is not legally obligated to hold this draft because he applied.

@StormBuonantony IF and only IF the NFL decides to have a supplemental draft. They are not required to have one and frankly there’s no reason to host a special event to accommodate the second coming of Art Schlister.

There is no rule that says it has to happen. end of story. It’s based on if the NFL feels like it.

You are correct, he was eligible for the supplemental draft, that is not in question. However the NFL decided not to conduct the supplemental draft. Those are two different things.

Which law states that the NFL must enact a supplental draft?

Can I sue because I think I should be in the NFL too?

Florio wants to be the head of the Player Association so bad. In his eyes no player has ever been rightfully suspended or ruled against for anything. Such a douche.

They never said whether he was eligible or not. They said whether they would decide to have one for him. It doesn’t matter what reason they give for not doing it. They could say, “we just don’t like you,” and that would be reason enough. It’s their sole discretion.

An old ambulance chaser cannot help himself, he still has to be an ambulance chaser. NFL says we are exercising our right to not have a supplemental draft. Old ambulance chaser ignores that they have that right.

This is the NFL's way of giving Brendan Sorsby the middle finger. 🖕

@MikeGiardi Correct. They colluded with the NCAA and pulled the rug out from under the kid. He was forced to say he’s a gambling addict, yet his bets only average $10 lol. This is just the NFL and NCAA covering their asses so they can keep cashing checks from DraftKings

Can’t be banned from anything that isn’t taking place. There have been maybe ten supplemental drafts in the last quarter century, this is hardly a surprise. Also a bold move to sue your potential employer before applying, I’m sure that will go well.

Hmmm I wonder why you feel this way Florio

The NFL is the only one who decides if there’s is going to be a supplemental draft. The league is well within their right do say “No we won’t have a supplemental draft this year just like we haven’t since 2023” They didn’t ban him, he’s eligible there’s just no draft. 🤷

The NFL is not legally or contractually obligated to hold a supplemental draft upon request. Under Article 6, Section 2(c) of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the league retains sole discretion to determine whether to conduct a supplemental draft in any given yr

@OmarKelly The verbiage is clear. It’s up to the league if they’re going to have a supplemental draft or not. Sorsby needs to sit back, be contrite and take his damn punishment for all his degenerate gambler behavior. You’re flat or wrong on this one Mike.

And yet the NFL doesn’t need to hold a supplemental draft…

Literally says they decide if they hold one or not. Dying on this hill is absolutely stupid

He can try the CFL.

NFLPA rules do not apply. Any member of the NFLPA who would do what Sorsby has done would face a lifetime ban.

The rules don’t include any test. It’s entirely discretionary. No one can compel the NFL to hold a supplemental draft and applying for it doesn’t entitle you to anything

It’s perfectly clear that is the NFL’s decision to either have a supplemental draft or not have a supplemental draft.

Mike, why are you always such a contrarian? You didn’t seem to have a problem pushing Russini out of the club. At bottom, aren’t these the same?

Doesn’t the fact that it’s a “petition” to enter the supplemental draft imply the petition can be denied? Shocked a lawyer wouldn’t catch that

Let him into the supplemental draft that the NFL decided not to hold? Is there some other NFL supplemental draft we don't know about? Complete idiocy your statement is
