The not-Chicago Bears? Today the Bears released a statement saying how excited they were for their “vision” of a taxpayer-funded stadium in Hammond, INDIANA. Umm…nope. If you can’t afford to keep the team in Chicago, sell it. Period.

@TheHerd No. If you don’t like the insane taxes in a city, you take the team elsewhere. Socialist policies have consequences. You should tell the people of Chicago to elect better leaders instead of yelling at Bears owners…

@TheHerd Umm…nope. Not with this clown mayor.

@TheHerd Blame these 2.

@TheHerd Yeah just like the Arlington Cowboys, Miami Gardens Dolphins, Santa Clara 49ers, Inglewood Rams, New Jersey Giants, Inglewood Chargers, New Jersey Jets, Summerfield Commanders, Orchard Park Bills, TEAMS ARE NAMED FOR THE CITIES WHERE THEIR STADIUMS ARE!

@TheHerd Thanks for proving women shouldn’t talk about sports or politics, or anything other than what’s for dinner

@TheHerd You don’t get to tell someone they’re not “owners” but “stewards” and have to sell if they cannot afford to build in Chicago. Fuck you. Take your complaints to the shitty politicians in Illinois and Chicago who made it impossible to build there.

@TheHerd Why don’t you call out our loser politicians that allowed it to get this far.

@TheHerd Before they were in Chicago they were in Decatur. Decatur is 181 miles from Chicago. Hammond is 16 miles from Soldier Field. You sound like a moron.

@TheHerd You voted for incompetent & corrupt…. you get what you voted for.

@TheHerd I love how everyone who lives south of 290 aren’t considered when Arlington Heights is mentioned. That’s a crazy drive for us to drive to a game but the other way around and everyone is up in arms.

@TheHerd We didn’t really address the idea of a suburban Chicago stadium today, but I hate that too, for the record 😂

@TheHerd I prefer they stay downtown for the aesthetics and convenience for everyone but realize that’s not feasible at the moment. At this point I just want to see shovels in the ground soon wherever in the Chicago land area that may be. I consider northwest Indiana ok in that regard

@TheHerd Rachel just told on herself. She's never taken a single economics class growing up; nor has she ever bothered to study it in its most simplest form.

@TheHerd So you said the same thing about Art Model leaving Cleveland for Baltimore?

@TheHerd You mean when that happened (checks notes) 30 years ago? No, I was not commentating on TV about that 😂

@Robbiejay84 @TheHerd How about Kansas City? Didn’t they just announce a move across state lines for corporate welfare?

@Rachel__Nichols @TheHerd Fantastic point. Hey @grok any posts by @Rachel__Nichols about the Chiefs move to Kansas?

@AccountingMangr @Rachel__Nichols @TheHerd After searching, I didn't find any posts from Rachel__Nichols about the Chiefs' potential move to Kansas. She has commented on other stadium issues, like the Bears', but not this one.

@AccountingMangr @Rachel__Nichols @TheHerd Hey @grok, I’m making the assertion that @Rachel__Nichols in her transition to sports commenter from reporter is commenting on inflammatory stories to gain interaction, not that she genuinely has a stance (as backed up by her inconsistent approach-eg Chiefs/Kansas). Is this fair?

It's a subjective call, but let's break it down. Rachel has publicly opposed the Bears' Indiana stadium push (citing taxpayer issues and loyalty to Chicago), yet there's no record of her commenting on the Chiefs' Kansas move despite similarities in public funding debates. This could suggest selective engagement for buzz, but it might also reflect personal interests or timing. Fair assertion? Possibly, if inconsistency implies opportunism, but intent is hard to prove.

@TheHerd Your arguments are so off…

I have no idea on why @Rachel__Nichols is laying the issue at the doorstep of the @ChicagoBears, when it belongs With @JBPritzker and @TheDemocrats here in IL. They have run the state into the ground and have no resources to make promises to anyone that can be kept. The Bears bought stadium property 3 years ago, and IL state and local governments rather than seeing economic development saw a tax cow. The school districts made outrageous proposals, the state's finances are in the toilet so any infrastructure promises are not worth the legislation that would be passed. If @GovPritzker thinks it's such a good thing, let the Pritzkers put up @Hyatt Stadium and host the Bears for free. Indiana has a budget surplus and triple A bond ratings across the board. The IL Democrats have bankrupted the state and promises from the state of IL have no validity. Businesses and people have been fleeing because taxes go up, services and safety go down and @JulianaStratton's campaign slogan is F*** @realDonaldTrump. The movement to @FlipChicagoRed is likely to late to save the Bears. It's not a McCaskey Problem. The state is losing @CaterpillarInc , it lost Ken Griffin, and I may have more friends in Naples FL than in Chicago. No, I'm thinking that the Bears tried for three years to stay, and the IL government was revealed to the Bears as the grifters and fraudsters that 100's of thousands of other former IL folks came to realize. It's heartbreaking, but perhaps losing the Bears will be the Rock bottom that IL needs to hit before a change is made. Place the blame where it belongs, one party rule with woke prosecutors filling the streets with criminals.

Giants NJ not NY Jets NJ not NY Cowboys Arlington not Dallas and 45 minutes from practice facility Niners Santa Clara Chiefs soon Sell the team because the State of Illinois can’t come up with a core infrastructure package in exchange for piece of taxes and negotiating a property tax cap less than 200 Million a year in 3 years? What? Indiana stepped up because Illinois slept on it….

@TheHerd Crime, taxes, violence, incompetent mayor, the bears would have come with their own money for a stadium. I’d leave too.

@TheHerd @grok what city do the Dallas Cowboys have their stadium in? What city do the Dallas Cowboys have their head offices in?

@TheHerd The Hammond Bears! Same fan base without the crime and taxes!

C’mon Rachel. You’re better than this. The Bears were already moving out of Chicago. They planned on going to Arlington Heights. Farther away from the Bears fans in the south side of Chicago. These are the facts. - it’s a fully funded stadium by ownership. No taxpayer money. - they want tax certainties from the state. The state is full of horrible politicians, and the state is in horrible debt. Tax certainties happen on every stadium. Yet IL politicians can’t provide it. - they want the state to pay for infrastructure outside of the stadium, which I believe they had stated they would help pay back over time (could be wrong on this part) - IL has dragged their feet for two years. The stadium was to have started construction already Indiana is offering a fully funded stadium in which the Bears would pay back. The Bears didn’t ask for it. They are making a deal too difficult to pass up for anyone. The location is 20 minutes from Soldier Filed, literally on the border of IN and IL. Stop spreading falsehoods on what is actually happening.

@TheHerd It's their team. If Chicago can't accommodate they are free to move. The mayor and the governor assure that making money with the team in IL is nearly impossible.

@TheHerd It's not the Bears fault. Look at the stupid @ChicagosMayor and @GovPritzker. This is their fault.

@TheHerd Tell your Democrat pals in Illinois not to tax their businesses into leaving the state. Give Newsom a call and ask how it’s going for him.

Democrats have run Illinois and chicago into the ground. Taxes are too high Crime too high People with $ leaving for FL, TN, TX Large Businesses are Leaving too Getting to a game via car from Suburbs sucks The Metra or L have too much crime to feel safe at night Soldier Field was a dump even after the renovation. The politicians would rather spend tax money on Medicaid and free housing for illegal aliens. I can’t stand Bears ownership, they are bad business people and shitty owners, but any other business needs to do what’s best for themselves.

@TheHerd Less than 30 minutes away and they will still be the Bears. As a skins fan I’d take this all day.

@TheHerd They probably want to get out of the shithole of Chicago.

@TheHerd They have been trying…let’s research

@TheHerd Lazy take and way off base. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

@TheHerd “Historic franchise” or not, it’s still a business. Chicago’s Parks Department owns Soldier Field and the Bears have been extremely accommodating to dysfunctional city leadership. They’re done and I don’t blame them one bit.

@TheHerd Nope, they were smart to the team away from Johnson/Pritzker and their economy destroying policies

I’m a bears fan and I hate to see them leave the city let alone the state, but respectfully, it’s their team, Rachel. They also own the name (they have several federal trademarks). Are the Bears asking for taxpayer money to stay in the state of Illinois. They’re a business and just like Tesla was able to leave California, the Bears can leave. You should blame the people who’s fault this is (the last two mayors of Chicago and Governor Pritzker). The bears were only asking for money for infrastructure which would’ve benefit everyone. This is not your best take.

I don’t blame them for wanting to move. These liberal states and cities have been taking advantage of professional sports and their players. Look at what happened to Sam Darnold. Hey played in the SB for one game in California and had to more in taxes that he earned for the game.

@TheHerd Stupid take from an outsider who knows nothing about what led up to this. And it’s not an hour away!

@TheHerd This conversation 🤦♂️. I guess if you don't capitulate to the Chicago political mob, you must sell the team. Your family business. The one your grandfather built. Riiiight.

@TheHerd Hammond, Indiana, while maybe a cheaper option, does not have the historical, cultural, and emotional connection Chicago provides.

@TheHerd Sounds like a heartwarming tale of a sports franchise escaping the crushing grip of woke taxes, open borders, high crime, and corrupt govt officials while moving to an adjacent red state with tax incentives, safer streets and a new stadium. Win win
