Jury selection has begun in the trial of the man accused of gunning down Mo3 for Yella Beezy. On Monday (Aug. 24), the capital murder trial for Kewon White kicked off in Dallas County Court. According to Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, attorneys for both sides are trying to narrow the prospective jury pool of 77 people down to a group of 12 for the high-profile case. A jury had yet to be seated when court ended on Monday. Prosecutors say Yella Beezy, born Markies Conway, orchestrated the murder of Mo3 due to an ongoing beef and hired White to kill Mo3, who was shot during a brazen daytime shooting on I-35 in Dallas in 2020. Yella Beezy, who was arrested last March and has pleaded not guilty, was expected to go to trial first. However, earlier this month, Judge Chika Anyiam ruled that White’s trial should precede it, despite objections from White’s counsel. Earlier this month, Judge Anyiam also ruled that song lyrics can be allowed in the trial, including Mo3's “2 Nineteen,” Yella Beezy's “Keep It in the Streets” and portions of Beezy's “On Ya Head." A third defendant, Devin Brown, has also been charged with capital murder for Mo3’s killing, with police saying he was with White when the shooting happened. Part of the #YellaBeezy interview prosecutors showed in court today focused on the 2018 shooting that left Beezy wounded multiple times. During the VladTV interview, Beezy was asked what he would do if the person who shot him apologized. Beezy said he ain’t with the apologizing and would “get my lick back.” Prosecutors are pointing to that statement as evidence of Beezy’s mindset toward retaliation and to establish alleged animosity between Beezy and #Mo3. On Wednesday (Aug. 26), the first Mo3 murder trial against alleged shooter Kewon White kicked off in Dallas. An old South Side Crips gang member testified today that his gang was aligned with Sean “Puffy” Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment when it was warring with a Bloods sect associated with Death Row Records. Devonta “Dirt Rock” Lee was involved in the assault with the Mob Piru gang in the Lakewood Mall in California weeks before Tupac Shakur was shot in Las Vegas on Sept. 7, 1996. A retired Los Angeles police detective testified on Wednesday that Davis told investigators Combs was to pay money for Shakur’s murder, but he never got it. Binu Palal, a deputy district attorney in Clark County, Nevada, asked Lee today (Thursday, August 20, day 4) if his understanding of his gang’s role with Combs’ label “was to ensure that Bad Boy was not bothered by other gangs?” “That was the basis of it, I believe. Lee Gilley, 39, allegedly killed his pregnant wife, Christa Gilley, in 2024 in Houston, Texas. Police say they received a call from Lee saying Christa had overdosed and had been administering CPR, but the medical examiner determined she had signs of strangulation, ruling her death a homicide. Lee was out on $1,000,000 bail when he cut off his ankle monitor and flew from Texas to Canada and then from Canada to Italy seeking asylum, claiming he was being “wrongfully prosecuted” and feared he would be facing the death penalty. Defense attorney Dick DeGuerin stated he was apprehended at the Milan airport after authorities questioned his identity before he told them who he was and that he was seeking asylum. Prosecutors say Lee was in contact with a woman from California and had discussed fleeing to Mexico and a detailed plan for removing his monitor, and inquired about acquiring a new identity through marriage. Tim Ballengee, the family lawyer for Christa, said, "The family fully expects that the defendant will be in custody for the duration of the proceedings, and trusts that the court will ensure the defendant is never again able to flee from justice.”
