FYI, regarding Sandwich, Massachusetts. Interestingly, its history does actually correlate to the naming of the food "sandwich" (in England), funny enough!

Went to school in Boring.

I get Peculiar=Odd, but in MO, I would think the oddest town name is Tightwad

There's alot more than just one in Texas for crazy names.

sandwich has nothing on belchertown

Is Normal, IL really an odd name?

It's named after a "normal school", meaning a teacher-training college: Illinois State Normal University. The town took the name in 1865.

Yes, I know. But it’s not really an odd name. Normal, AL (now part of Huntsville) is named that for the exact same reason. Same with Normal, KY and Normal Station in Memphis.

The answer for Virginia should be "Bumpass".

Bumpass was on our shortlist😄We kept the list family-friendly,so Bland got Virginia.

NM should be Nutt.

Nutt was a strong contender! Truth or Consequences won because it renamed itself after a radio show in 1950.

I lived in Truth or Consequences and around that area in the early 80s. Ralph Edward's, the original host of the show would come every year as the grand Marshall of the parade for him. Anyway, that's how I knew about Nutt! Lol

Intercourse PA

the Mass. town now called "Aquinnah" was previously named "Gay Head" from 1870 until 1997

@grok create a text list of all these places.
