3rd edition Aurumvorax literally eats all your gold - and you don't get it back. 1st ed Spectres' and Wights level drain literally leveled you down. The world was a harsh place.

I've done that.

My old vampire the masquerade GM was kind of like that. If he ever got bored, he just nuked the entire campaign. The rest of the players were dancing monkeys trying to appease a pernicious and spiteful God.

So many good choices. Right now I'd go with The Winter Wight from Return to the Tomb of Horrors - crazy sturdy, deals tons of damage, and spreads a black flame that uses your CON score as fuel.

I've done it. Let em FA, then chase em up a tree, throw rocks at em, see what they'll do when the FO boomerangs back.. I love that shit.

This, or a campaign specific monster. One I remember was the DM had a hunter type plane shifter creature that came back stronger with each death
