The Ontario Coroner’s Office recently released a report from a committee reviewing medically assisted deaths. It includes disturbing case studies. For example: -A psychiatrist proactively raised assisted suicide to a man in his 40’s with inflammatory bowel disease, who was undergoing a mental health assessment. The committee found his... substance use was not explored in the #MAiD assessments. He was not offered addiction treatments. There was no documented input from his family. The MAiD provider personally drove him in their vehicle to the location of his death. -The report shows people who received assisted suicide under Track 2 – where death is not reasonably foreseeable – were much more likely to live in marginalized areas of Ontario. Le Bureau du coroner de l’Ontario a récemment publié le rapport d’un comité chargé d’examiner les décès médicalement assistés. Ce rapport contient des études de cas troublantes. Par exemple : -Un psychiatre a évoqué de manière proactive le suicide assisté auprès d’un homme d’une quarantaine d’années souffrant d’une maladie inflammatoire intestinale, qui faisait l’objet d’une évaluation de sa santé mentale. Le comité a constaté que sa consommation de substances n’avait pas été examinée dans le cadre des évaluations concernant l’ #AMM. On ne lui a pas proposé de traitement de la dépendance. Il n’y a pas eu de contribution documentée de sa famille. La personne ayant administré l’AMM l’a conduit personnellement dans son véhicule jusqu’au lieu de son décès. -Le rapport montre que les personnes qui ont reçu une aide au suicide dans le cadre de la voie 2, où la mort n’est pas raisonnablement prévisible, étaient beaucoup plus susceptibles de vivre dans des régions marginalisées de l’Ontario.
