Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attended the funeral ceremony in Soran for the six Peshmerga who were martyred in the Iranian missile attack in the early hours of Tuesday March 24. Following his participation in the ceremony, the Prime Minister delivered a statement to the press to extend his condolences to the families and relatives of the martyrs and to the people of Kurdistan. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing on the patriotic path of the martyrs. In this regard, the Prime Minister said: “With deep sorrow, we extend our condolences to His Excellency President Barzani, to the relatives and the proud families of the martyrs, and to all of us over the loss of these six heroic martyrs. We also wish the wounded a speedy recovery.” The Prime Minister reiterated that they were victims of treachery and betrayal, and that the attack on Peshmerga Forces was carried out without justification. He said that it is because of the blood of the martyrs that we live with pride in our country, and that Kurdistan is precious because of their sacrifice. Just as the blood of the martyrs has never been shed in vain, this time too it will not be in vain. The Prime Minister also stressed that while we do not want to be drawn into any war and want Kurdistan to remain protected, we will do whatever is necessary to protect Kurdistan and defend the dignity, rights, land, and homeland of our people. He emphasized that we will continue along the path of our martyrs and the path of President Barzani.

In Davos, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France. They discussed developments in Iraq and the efforts of political parties to form the new Iraqi federal cabinet. They also expressed deep concern over the clashes in Syria, which pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability and risk enabling a resurgence of ISIS. They agreed on the importance of addressing issues through dialogue and negotiations and guaranteeing the rights of the Kurdish people and all components in Syria.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a delegation of American companies led by Steve Lutes, Vice President for Middle East Affairs of the US Chamber of Commerce. In the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and support of the United States. He highlighted the KRG’s reforms in economic diversification, particularly in energy, agriculture, banking and digitalization of public services, noting the success of both MyAccount and Runaki projects. The Prime Minister also reiterated the Kurdistan Region's readiness to provide all assistance to domestic and foreign investors. On behalf of the delegation, Mr Lutes, thanked the KRG for the warm welcome and said many American companies are ready to develop trade relations with the Kurdistan Region. Finally, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister answered questions and comments from the representatives of the companies, which included Google, IBM, Visa, Pepsi, and Coca Cola.

The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences and sympathy to the martyr’s parents and relatives. The Prime Minister later visited a hospital to see those wounded in the attacks on Erbil and wished them a swift recovery. In a statement to the media, Prime Minister Barzani again extended his condolences to the family of Walat Tahir, noting that this is not the first martyr of Kurdistan and will not be the last. The Prime Minister condemned the attacks on the Kurdistan Region and reaffirmed that these assaults have no justification and stem only from deep hatred toward Kurdistan and its people. He emphasized that the perpetrators should know that the hostile stance they have taken will not be forgotten by the people of Kurdistan. The Prime Minister called on the federal government and parliament to take a clear position and set limits on these criminals, noting that, unfortunately, the groups carrying out such attacks are funded by the Baghdad government and are provided with salaries and weapons.
